Application Server Installation

Introduction

This document is a step-by-step guide of the first installation of the Cubus software on a centralized application server.

The application server installation is made in two steps:

Requirements

Please check the special application server requirements before proceeding with the installation. Note that full write permission has to be granted recursively onto the main Cubus folder — located on the application server — before executing the Setup utility.

A. Installation on the Server

N.B.: Administrator privileges are necessary!

A1. Installation

  1. On the server, access your Cubus distribution medium with the Windows Explorer and launch the installation by double-clicking on the “Setup.exe” executable.
  2. In the first dialog, select your preferred language and click [Next›].

    Setup00
  3. Follow the dialogs of the Setup utility. We recommend that you accept all suggestions.

    Setup01-02-04

N.B.: For the main Cubus folder choose the folder you plan to share for the Cubus applications.

    Click [Next›].

  4. The newest licences are automatically loaded and shown in the following dialog:

    Setup05

Click [Next›] to accept this list. You may however explicitly select the licenses you want to install (e.g. if you need programs of the previous generation). In this case, proceed as follows:
    • Click [Delete all] to delete all licenses already loaded.
    • Click [Details] to get more information about each license available on your Cubus distribution medium.
    • Click [Load] to add licenses from your Cubus distribution medium to the list of licenses already loaded.
    • Click [Next›].
  5. Follow further the dialogs.

    Setup06-07-08-09

Click [Terminate] to close the Setup utility.

A2. Configuration

The CubusNetworkManager is a utility dedicated to the configuration of an application and license server. It is located in the CubusShared\cNetManager\ subdirectory of the main Cubus folder.

  1. Navigate to the main Cubus folder and setup the network file sharing for it.
  2. Start the CubusNetworkManager.
  3. Select the “Application server” tabsheet.

    NetManager01r
  4. Verify that the “Cubus path of the application server” does match the path of the main Cubus folder as seen from a client workstation. The path must end with “\”.
  5. Under “Preset of licenses”, for each Cubus application, you may select the default license a new user will get at the first start of the corresponding application.
  6. Check the option “The Cubus applications run on a network from a server”.
  7. Check the option “Create the Cubus startmenu for all users” to automatically create this menu as a client workstation is installed (optional).
  8. Check the option “Manually specify the name of the UpdateHost” and type the name of the workstation from where future updates can be installed exclusively (optional).
  9. If you have a remote management of the logins, you should further check the correct configuration of the “Hardlock”.
  10. Close the CubusNetworkManager.

B. Setup of the Clients

N.B.: Administrator privileges are necessary!

You can setup a client workstation only after the Cubus software has been properly installed and configured on the application server. The Cubus distribution medium is not needed for client installation. You have to execute the following steps on each workstation.

With the Windows Explorer, navigate to the shared network folder of the Cubus installation located on the application server. Look out for the CubusNetworkManager (i.e cNetManager.exe) utility in the CubusShared\cNetManager\ subdirectory of the main Cubus folder.

  1. Start the CubusNetworkManager.
  2. Select the “Application client” tabsheet and click [Install the client].

    NetManager03r
  3. Select the “Hardlock keys server” tabsheet and click [Install] for the Hardlock drivers.

    NetManager03r
  4. Close the CubusNetworkManager.

Launching a Cubus Application

Cubus applications are launched from the CubusExplorer. To start the CubusExplorer press the ‹Windows logo› key and type “CubusExplorer”.

Troubleshooting

If you get any error message during the installation procedure, or if you can't start a Cubus application, you may refer to the “Advanced” documentation.
