Licenses & Hardlock
Introduction
The Cubus software is protected by laws on intellectual property. To enforce this, licenses delivered by
Cubus AG are coupled to a hardware key of type “Hardlock”. Whether you opt for static or
floating licenses, and irrespective of your installation type — stand-alone or application
server installation — Cubus applications require a permanent connection to that key. You will
find here the full documentation related to the hardlock keys.
Static license & local Hardlock key
A static license allows a user to use a Cubus application on a given workstation at a time. Standard
Cubus licenses are static licences.
Static licences are coupled to a local Hardlock. Modern local Hardlock keys delivered by Cubus
are blue USB keys, displaying a red light when plugged in and ready. Hardlock keys require the
installation of drivers.

Floating license & remote Hardlock key
A floating license allows a user to use a Cubus application from any workstation that can access the
identified license server. A management utility running on the license server keeps track of the number
of Cubus applications running.
Floating licenses are coupled to a remote Hardlock. Modern remote Hardlock keys delivered by Cubus
are green USB keys, displaying a red light when plugged in and ready. Hardlock keys require the
installation of drivers.
