Installing a Remote Hardlock Key
Introduction
The Cubus applications require a permanent connection to a hardware key of type “Hardlock”. Irrespective of your installation type — stand-alone or application server installation — you need to install drivers and a service to access the remote Hardlock key.
Modern remote Hardlock keys delivered by Cubus are green USB keys, displaying a red light when plugged in and ready.
Requirements
Please check the special Hardlock requirements before proceeding with the installation. Note that the UDP port 3047 should be opened on the Hardlock keys server as well as on each Hardlock keys client.
A. Hardlock keys server installation
N.B.: Administrator privileges are necessary!
A floating licenses management utility, called “HL-Server” and running as a service on the Hardlock keys server, keeps track of the number of Cubus applications running. The drivers have to be installed before the installation of the service. At the end of the installation, the utility will try to create the requested firewall pinhole. After installation, the service will be automatically started and it will also be configured to be automatically started at boot time.
Depending whether the Cubus applications are installed on the Hardlock keys server or not, the installation procedure differs.
- On a computer where Cubus applications have already been installed
- On a dedicated Hardlock keys server
On a computer where Cubus applications have already been installed
- Start the CubusNetworkManager.
-
Select the “Hardlock keys server” tabsheet.
- Click [Install] for the Hardlock drivers.
- Click [Install service] for the “HL-Server” service; follow the instructions on the screen, accept all default values, but do not re-install the drivers.
- In the case of an application server installation, set the Hardlock keys server IP address as the default IP address for each remote Hardlock key attached to this Hardlock keys server.
- Close the CubusNetworkManager.
You can now plug in your Hardlock on the Hardlock keys server. After a few seconds, the led should be lit.
On a dedicated Hardlock keys server
If the main Cubus folder is accessible over the network, you will find the Hardlock installation tools in the “Cubus\CubusShared\Aladdin\” folder. Otherwise, you may directly access the Hardlock installation tools from your Cubus distribution medium, these tools beeing available under “Aladdin\”.
- Go to the “Aladdin\Install\” subfolder with the Windows Explorer.
- Start the Hardlock drivers installation utility with a double-click onto “install.bat”.
- Go to the “Aladdin\Server\” subfolder with the Windows Explorer.
- Start the “HL-Server” service installation utility with a double-click onto “HLSW32.exe”; follow the instructions on the screen, accept all default values, but do not re-install the drivers.
- In the case of an application server installation, set further on the application server the Hardlock keys server IP address as the default IP address for each remote Hardlock key attached to this Hardlock keys server, as described here before.
B. Hardlock keys clients installation
N.B.: Administrator privileges are necessary!
- Start the CubusManager.
-
Select the “Hardlock” tabsheet and click [Install] for the Hardlock drivers.
- In the case of a stand-alone installation, set the Hardlock keys server IP address as the default IP address for each remote Hardlock key attached to this Hardlock keys server; in the case of an application server installation, this IP address has already been set on the application server as described here before.
- Close the CubusManager.
Troubleshooting
If the “HL-Server” service does not start, you may need to check your DEP settings as described in the “Advanced DEP” documentation.
If you get any error during the installation procedure, or if you can't start a Cubus application from a Hardlock client, you may refer to the “Advanced” documentation.
