FAQ, LARIX, Question 4
Why are the results for serviceability higher than for structural safety?
Due to the setting of the pressure at rest component, higher earth pressures can result for the limit states of serviceability than for those of the structural safety. As a result, larger deformations and section forces can result even after taking into account the load coefficients for serviceability.
According to SIA 261: 2020, Table 1, the following default values are used in LARIX for the pressure at rest component:
| • | Ultimate Limit states | ULS | Earth pressure coefficient r = 0.0, i.e. active earth pressure |
| • | Limit states of serviceability | SLS | Earth pressure coefficient r = 1.0, i.e. earth pressure at rest |
However, the earth pressure component is to be defined project-specifically by the user
and can be defined in the “Coefficients and parameters” dialog (button at the top left in the program).
