Installation of a Workstation

In this document the new Web-based installation and update of a standalone workstation is described. It is targeted at users, who have local administration rights and thus are able to manage the installation without the help of a network administrator. The document is valid for installations with or without a license server.

In order to simplify the transition from the legacy CD-based to the new Web-based installation, both installations are compared in this document. Please read it before starting the installation. When installing the Generation 8 software, the legacy installation is automatically removed, but all project data remains untouched.

Initial Installation of Software and Licenses

The Cubus software and the licenses are always installed locally on the PC. In order to start the installation you must open the Web-based Cubus Installer:

https:\\install.cubus.ch

In order to sign in to the Cubus Installer, you need the customer number ‘BN’ and the corresponding ‘InstallKey’, which you have received by email from Cubus (delivery note). After the login please follow the instructions for the installation of the software and the licenses.

Software Protection

After a successfull initial installation you have to install the drivers for the software protection: Make sure the included USB dongle (Hardlock) is not connected to the PC and install the drivers with CubusExplorer ('Main menu' > 'Settings' > 'Licenses+Updates' > 'Hardlock'). After a successfull driver installation connect the dongle and a red light should be visible on the dongle.

Topic New Web-based Installation Legacy CD-based Installation
Protection system USB dongle ‘Hardlock’
Standalone license local Hardlock with driver software
Network license network Hardlock attached to the license server, running server software (HL-Server)
Installation of drivers with CubusExplorer with CubusManager

Netzwork License

If you have a network license, you must install a license server as well. This server is dynamically allocating the licenses to the client workstations in the network. A detailed desription of the installation procedure is found here.

In order to connect your workstation to the license server, you must specify the corresponding IP address. This is done in the CubusExplorer ('Main menu' > 'Settings' > 'Licenses+Updates' > 'Hardlock'), where you can input the IP address.

Update of Software and Licenses

Topic New Web-based Installation Legacy CD-based Installation

Manual license update identical to initial installation with CD or
*.syl file (email from Cubus)
Update while in use supported for software and licenses not supported

Whenever a new release of the Cubus Software is ready to download, the CubusExplorer is showing a notification message. In some environments (e.g. virtual servers) it could be useful to hide this message. How to set this correctly, read here.

Location for User Settings

The configuration of the user interface (e.g. size of windows, colors, path of recently used projects) is stored in the user profile of windows and therefore not part of the installation.

The settings for the print output (e.g. page layout of CubusViewer) and all relevant material settings for the calculations (e.g. material classes) are defined in configuration files and installed with the software. If you want to overwrite the default configuration, you can save your own files in the following configuration directory:

ProgramFiles(x86)\Cubus Software\Config

If a configuration file with the same name exists in the configuration directory, then this is read in. Here are a few examples of configuration files:

Setting File name Path from configuration directory
Page layout of CubusViewer
(report printout)
*.TJL \CubusShared\cViewer
Format for layouts *.LAY \Name of program\LAY\*
Material classes NormID.PAR \CubusShared\Codes\Materials (Gen. 7)
or
\CubusShared\Codes\Materials8 (Gen. 8)
Default materials Default_NormID.LST \CubusShared\Codes\Bstf7 (Gen. 7)
or
\CubusShared\Codes\Bstf8 (Gen. 8)
